New arrest warrant for Patrick’s Cove man accused of bailing on $800 cab fare
When Darwin Gerard McGrath’s case was called in Harbour Grace provincial court Wednesday morning for a first appearance, he wasn’t there. Judge Jacqueline Brazil subsequently issued the warrant for the 47-year-old’s arrest.
McGrath is also wanted in connection to a Port aux Basques cab driver’s claim the man failed to pay for an $800 ride to St. John’s last December. Police issued an arrest warrant for that case.
The matter being heard in Harbour Grace involves McGrath’s alleged use of a stolen credit card in Placentia on Christmas Eve to pay for a $350 cab ride. This incident occurred only a few days after the ride from Port aux Basques to St. John’s.
He’s charged with possessing a stolen credit card, fraudulently obtaining transportation and possessing property obtained by crime.

McGrath’s criminal history is extensive. He has a 62-page criminal record with over 200 convictions, most of which involve fraud and forgery charges. His last conviction in Newfoundland and Labrador came in 2009. The phone number listed on a court document in Harbour Grace suggests he may have recently lived in British Columbia.
